The World War II may be over, but the LMS pre-war policy of retrenchment and economy  enforced by the Executive Research Office and made even more severe by Mr. Attlee´s “Austerity” government meant that money could not be made available for a guide to he Works. The Works Manager, dissatisfied that there was nothing to give to visitors, used the dyeline printing resources of  the drawing office and an ordinary duplicator to produce this servicable booklet.
