Description

This is a kind of economy version of “Jane’s Fighting Ships” confining its coverage to the capital ships (except aircraft carriers) of the belligerent powers. Every effort had been made to make the publication up to date, although how reliable the information about current Axis building plans was is not known. Several French vessels are noted as “Some of these ships are no longer serviceable as they were seriously damaged by British naval action at Oran and Dakar in 1940”.

A previous owner has helpfully noted the fates of various vessels later in the war. Appendices compare the armament, including weight of armour piercing projectiles, of different nations, and lists the current numbers of ships under construction by each country. This is a handy little reference book.
