Looking at the vast empty expanses of the Thames today, it is sometimes difficult to imagine that it within living memory it was once thronged with barges, lighters, tugs and ships of all nations. This booklet intended for passengers on Thames pleasure steamers day tripping to Margate or Southend to recognize some of the many vessels they might see on the way, is the record of a vanished age and pure nostalgia.
