Description

Plan of station in 1948 and 19 B&W illustrations.  This is a very attractively designed booklet, rather let down by the poor quality paper, which does not do justice to the illustrations, but in “Austerity” 1948, anything better was hard to come by. These are a good selection on the whole, but do tend to emphasize the station’s role in war time- This is a well- written comprehensive history, full of useful dates. When did the famous clock appear on the concourse? – 1919. When did London Jack, the dog who collected for charity die?- 1901. Waterloo was extensively rebuilt between 1899 and 1922, when it became the most modern railway terminus in London, until Euston was rebuilt in the 60s.
