Description

This is a curious little item dating from the early days of motoring. The first few pages are devoted to promoting the shock absorbers, dampers and brakes patented by Barduff Ltd.
The remainder consists of an eclectic selection of advice, tips and recipes for the motorist and “useful” tables of threads and pitches – the automotive industry was using no less than four different standards. Allowing for components from outside suppliers your motor car would probably include at least two different standards. Carrying spare nuts and bolts in all the sizes you might require is strongly recommended.
Other highlights include preventing rats from eating your fan belt, cleaning patent leather upholstery, the necessity of wearing wind-proof clothing (in emergency brown paper between two layers of ordinary clothing is effective).
If you suffer from “motoring headaches”, line your cap with chamois leather or two layers of the material “used to make lightweight tents”.

“Gentlemen will not, others must not drive so as to be a nuisance to the public”.

Quite so… but who is going to tell “the others?”
